NHTSA Trends, 1979-2010

The next series of posts on CSD will focus on trends in the NHTSA crash test series between 1979-2010. There are currently 1,168 frontal crash tests that I know about between May 21, 1979 and January 20, 2010. This first post is on the test program in general, and trends over time. Later, we will be comparing cars to SUVs, trucks, and vans and imports to domestics. This posts has been made before, but there is lots of missing data that is now known, including six missing crash tests.

Threshold for likely serious injury is 1,000 HIC and/or 60 Chest G. Positions with less than these values "passed", and positions with a value exceeding these "failed".
